Mystery surrounds the fate of Private Thomas McMeekin (4912), 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, formerly of Grange Mill Quarter, Toomebridge, who was reported missing on 9th May. McMeekin has 19 years’ service, several of which he spent in Africa and India. His brother, Mr Joseph McMeekin, 25 Charleville Avenue, Belfast, would be grateful for any news concerning him.
Private Thomas McMeekin has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial in Belgium.
His brother, Joseph McMeekin, lived in Charleville Avenue, Belfast with his wife Hannah. Joseph and Hannah appear there in the census of both 1901 and 1911.
