17/10/2016 Private Thomas McMeekin has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial in Belgium.
17/10/2016 His brother, Joseph McMeekin, lived in Charleville Avenue, Belfast with his wife Hannah. Joseph and Hannah appear there in the census of both 1901 and 1911.
17/10/2016 Private Thomas McMeekin was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he was killed in action in France and Flanders on Sunday 9th May 1915. He was initially reported missing.
17/10/2016 By the time of his death Private McMeekin had 19 years’ service, several of which were spent in Africa and India.
17/10/2016 Thomas joined the army about 1896, enlisting in Belfast.

05/06/2016 Mystery surrounds the fate of Private Thomas McMeekin (4912), 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, formerly of Grange Mill Quarter, Toomebridge, who was reported missing on 9th May. McMeekin has 19 years’ service, several of which he spent in Africa and India. His brother, Mr Joseph McMeekin, 25 Charleville Avenue, Belfast, would be grateful for any news concerning him.
