Summary      
James McKendry was the youngest child of Charles and Eliza McKendry. He was born in the Maghera area on 2nd July 1898. He was one of three children. His father was a linen finisher. James McKendry enlisted in Maghera. He was living in Castledawson at the time. Private James McKendry was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on 16th August 1917 at Passchendaele. He was just 19 years old.

James McKendry was the youngest child of Charles and Eliza McKendry. Charles McKendry married Eliza Stewart on 24th April 1894 in the district of Cookstown.
James McKendry was born in the Maghera area on 2nd July 1898. He was one of three children.
Family: Charles McKendry, Eliza McKendry, Sarah McKendry (born 22nd September 1894), John Stewart McKendry (born 30th April 1896), James McKendry (born 2nd July 1898).
The 1901 census lists James as age 2 living with the family at house 33 in Broagh, Rocktown, County Londonderry. His father was a linen finisher.
The 1911 census lists James as age 12 living with the family at house 7 in Toberhead, Desertmartin, County Londonderry. James was still at school.
James McKendry enlisted in Maghera. He was living in Castledawson at the time.

Private James McKendry was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on 16th August 1917 at Passchendaele. He was just 19 years old.
From the Belfast Newsletter dated 28th September 1917:
Private James McKendry, son of Mr and Mrs Charles McKendry, Toberhead, Castledawson, wounded and missing since 16th August. There is ground for hope that he is a prisoner.
From the Belfast Newsletter dated 5th January 1918:
Private James McKendry, Toberhead, Castledawson, now reported killed on 16th August last.
From the Mid Ulster Mail dated 6th January 1918: Castledawson
Mr and Mrs Charles McKendry, Toberhead, has been notified by the War Office that their son, Private Jim McKendry, Ulster Division, reported wounded and missing since 16th August last, is believed to have died from wounds on that day. The notification is accompanied by the testimony of a comrade, who tended him that day after he was wounded on the head.
Private McKendry has no known grave and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial. The Memorial to the Missing at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, West Vlaanderen, Belgium bears the names of many who fell in the battles for Passchendaele and whose bodies were never recovered.
