Summary
Archibald Patton was the son of John and Sarah Patton. He was born on 12th November 1885 in the Portglenone area, probably in Tyanee where he lived. He was one of ten children. They were a farming family. Archibald Patton emigrated to New Zealand. Prior to enlisting Archibald was living in Erua area of the North Island of New Zealand. He was described as being a settler. He had previously worked for the Railway Depot. Rifleman Archibald Patton was serving with the 1st Battalion (A Company) of the 3rd New Zealand Rifle Brigade when he was killed in action near Ypres in Belgium on 12th October 1917.
Perth Cemetery (China Wall) is located 3 Kms east of Ieper town centre, on the Maaldestedestraat, a road leading from the Meenseweg (N8), connecting Ieper to Menen. From Ieper town centre the Meenseweg is located via Torhoutstraat and right onto Basculestraat. Basculestraat ends at a main cross roads, directly over which begins the Meenseweg. 1.7 Kms along the Meenseweg at a major roundabout lies the right hand turning onto the Maaldestedestraat. The cemetery itself is located 1 Km along the Maaldestedestraat on the left hand side of the road.
