Hugh O’Hare was born in County Antrim about 1886. Hugh O’Hare enlisted in Glasgow. He was living in Portglenone at the time. Hugh O'Hare, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, was listed as being from Carmegrim. Carmegrim lies south east of Portglenone in County Antrim. Private Hugh O’Hare was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the 1st day of the Battle of the Somme on Saturday 1st July 1916.

The Thiepval Memorial will be found on the D73, next to the village of Thiepval, off the main Bapaume to Albert road (D929). Each year a major ceremony is held at the memorial on 1 July.
