Amongst the names of those at the front mentioned in despatches of Sir John French for gallant and distinguished services appears the name that of Miss M A Doherty, of Queen Alexandra's Nursing Services. She is the daughter of Mr P Doherty, Meeting Street, Magherafelt, and was charge nurse in Dr Steeven’s Hospital for three years. She has been in France since August. |

Able Seaman Thomas Kidd |
Private W Kidd, Royal Field Artillery, who has been in Sierra Leone, British West Africa, on service for the past fourteen months, is home on a short furlough previous to proceeding with his battalion to the front. Private Kidd is a son of Mrs Kidd, Toomebridge, and has had twelve years’ service. His brother, Alexander Kidd, of the same regiment, is at present in India. While another brother, Thomas Kidd, is on active service in the Royal Navy. |

The Roll of Honour in the village and district is gradually nearing the hundred mark. Four more natives of the district, who are members of the 10th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, now at Randalstown, have been promoted to non-commissioned officers (NCO) rank. These are:- Lance Corporals George Sampson, Leitrim; Signaller Hiram Kerr, Drumlamph; Bicycle Orderly Thomas Pickering, Tamnadace; and William Shanks, Castledawson. |
