At 5pm on the evening of 8th February 1945, an Avro Lancaster (Serial Number ND554) bomber took off from RAF East Kirkby on a night raid. Their mission was to bomb a synthetic oil plant at Politz, Poland, not far from the German border. Flight Sergeant James Montague was part of the seven man crew. The bomber was part of the first phase attack on the oil plant. |
