‘The whole country is practically a military camp. There are a great many Australians there. The country is lovely, and where we came through after landing at Marseilles as practically all orchards and vineyards. We have straw to lie on, so it is not too bad. I hope it is as good near the trenches, but I am sure it is not. I might possibly go to England, as leave is being granted, but men who have been on Gallipoli go first. I am glad to be out of Egypt, and in civilisation again.’ |
