The 1911 census lists Rose Ann as age 35 living with her family at house 72 in Tyanee, Clady, County Londonderry. She is married with one child, Annie, born about 1904 in England.
A newspaper report records that they had two children.

Private John James Barber was serving with the 7th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers when he was killed in action at the Dardanelles on 13th June 1915.
From the Belfast Newsletter dated 18th September 1915:
The War Office has notified Mrs Rose Ann Barber, who, with her two children, is at present stopping at the home of her father, Mr Joseph Mullen, Tyanee, Portglenone, that her husband, Private Barber, of the 7th Lancashire Fusiliers, has been killed in action at the Dardanelles.
Private John James Barber has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Gallipoli.
Private John Barber is commemorated in Salford Cathedral.
