A report in the Glasgow Evening Times dated 25th May 1918 notes that Private Nelson is presumed killed.
Last Will and Testament of Private Sam Nelson dated 10th December 1915:
In the event of my death, I will leave ten pounds to my father and ten pounds to my mother. Father’s address: 149 Garngad Road, Townhead Road, Glasgow, Scotland. Mother: 149 Garngad Road, Townhead Road, Glasgow, Scotland. Private Sam Nelson, 26366, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, 10th December 1915.
Private Samuel Nelson is buried in New Irish Farm Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium.
There is a Private S Nelson, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, on the WJ Clark memorial, although it does not indicate that he died in the war.
The CWGC record Private S Nelson as the son of William and Sarah Nelson of 149 Garngad Road, Glasgow.
Private Joseph Nelson (26365) and Private Samuel Nelson (26366), with consecutive soldier numbers with the 11th Inniskilling Fusiliers, both from Upperlands, seem to have enlisted together in Glasgow. It is suspected that that they are brothers, but no conclusive evidence has been found as yet.
