Both the 1901 and 1911 census spell his name Robert Carlton. The CWGC record him as Robert Carleton.
The 1901 census lists a Robert Carlton as age 28, working as a servant at house 186 in Craigs, Dunminning, County Antrim. Craigs is near Cullybackey.
The 1911 census lists Robert as age 40, working as a servant at house 23 in Moyknock, Kilrea, Londonderry. The census notes that he was married.
Robert Carleton was a member of Lislea Purple Marksmen L.O.L. 161.
Robert was living in Portglenone when he enlisted in Kilrea .
Private Robert Carleton was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was severely wounded near Wulvergem on the Belgium side of the France-Belgium border.
Private Robert Carleton was taken to No 53 Casualty Clearing Station in France but died of his wounds on 30th April 1917. He was 47 years old.
Private Robert Carlton is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension in Nord in France.
