Summary
Francis Donnelly was born in Draperstown, County Londonderry. He enlisted in Omagh, Co. Tyrone. After training he went to France on 18th December 1915. He had previously been with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and Army Cyclist Corps. Private Francis Donnelly was serving with 2nd Battalion of the Royal Munster Fusiliers when he was wounded. Private Donnelly died of gunshot wounds, which fractured his right thigh, at No 3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station on 12th November 1917.

Interestingly, in his will, Francis left all to Brigid Crilly of Tonagh Cottage, Draperstown. Brigid’s brothers, Private Bernard Crilly and Private Charles Crilly, also died in the war.

In the event of my death, I leave all my property to my friend, Miss Brigid Crilly, The Cottage, Tonagh, Draperstown, Co Derry. Ireland. No 6970. Private Francis Donnelly, 2nd Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers 23rd October 1917. C Company.
Private Donnelly is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.
