Adam McKelvey was the only son of Thomas John and Elizabeth McKelvey. He was born in Bellaghy on 24th July 1888. His mother died when he was very young. His father was a farmer. Adam too worked on a farm, in Leitrim, Castledawson, County Londonderry. Adam McKelvey later enlisted in Belfast. Rifleman Adam McKelvey was serving with the 8th/9th Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he was died of wounds at Rouen on Saturday 15th December 1917.

Adam McKelvey was the only son of Thomas John and Elizabeth McKelvey. Thomas McKelvey married Elizabeth Brown on 18th October 1887 in the district of Cookstown.

The 1901 census lists Adam as age 10 living with the family at house 3 in Ballyscullion West, Bellaghy, County Londonderry. His mother had died. His father was a farmer.
The 1911 census lists Adam as age 22 working as a farm servant at house 31 in Leitrim, Castledawson, County Londonderry.

Rifleman McKelvey is buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension near Rouen, France. During the First World War, Commonwealth camps and hospitals were stationed on the southern outskirts of Rouen.
