Robert John McClean was the son of John and Jane McLean. Robert was born about 1877. His father was Clerk of Petty Sessions, living in Draperstown. At some point Robert emigrated to Canada. Robert was active in the 29th Light Horse and was an insurance broker living in Regina. Regina is the capital city of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Robert McLean enlisted at Regina late in 1916. Lieutenant Robert John McLean was serving with the 24th Battalion (the Québec Regiment) of the Canadian Infantry when he was involved in an accident on 2nd April 1919 that resulted in a compound fracture of his leg. Despite the amputation of his leg, Lieutenant Robert John McLean died two days later of his injuries on 4th April 1919.
