Fusilier Robert Trainor was serving with the 6th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died on 5th August 1943.

The attack to cross the River Simeto in Sicily started at 10:30 on the morning of the 5th August. Fusilier Trainor may have been killed during that attack or he may have died of wounds suffered at the battles for Centuripe of the Salso on 3rd and 4th August.

Fusilier Robert Trainor was reinterred in Catania War Cemetery in Sicily on 7th April 1944. His inscription reads: HIS LOVING FACE AND SMILE WITH SADNESS WE RECALL HE ALWAYS HAD A KINDLY WORD AND DIED BELOVED BY ALL
