2nd Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (British Army)
Gordon Turnbull was the son of James Turnbull. He was born about 1924. Fusilier Gordon Turnbull was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died at Anzio in Italy on 2nd May 1944. Operations in January 1944 landed troops behind the German lines at Anzio, but defences were well organised, and a breakthrough was not actually achieved until May.
Anzio is a coastal town 70 kilometres south of Rome. To reach Anzio take the Route No.148 Superstrada Motorway, which runs between Rome and Latina.
