Edward Lennox was the son of Robert and Jane Lennox. He was born on 11th December 1896 in the Kilrea area. He was one of at least five children. They were a farming family who, lived in Moyknock, halfway between Kilrea and Portglenone. Edward’s mother died in 1905 when Edward was nine years old. His father remarried. Edward Lennox was a Sunday School teacher in Kilrea. Edward Lennox served with the Hussars for a time. Rifleman Edward Lennox was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he was killed in action on Friday 10th August 1917.
Ypres (now Ieper) is a town in the Province of West Flanders. The Memorial is situated at the eastern side of the town on the road to Menin (Menen) and Courtrai (Kortrijk). Each night at 8 pm the traffic is stopped at the Menin Gate while members of the local Fire Brigade sound the Last Post in the roadway under the Memorial's arches.
