Robert Ramsey was the second eldest son of Daniel and Ellen Ramsey. He was born on 7th August 1895 in Kilrea, County Antrim. The family lived in Culmore, County Antrim. Daniel Ramsey was a coachman to Captain Armstrong of Culmore. Robert worked as a telegraph messenger and then as a linen lapper at W Clarke’s in Upperlands. Sergeant Robert Ramsey was serving with the 12th Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he was killed in action at 10:30 on the morning of Wednesday 23rd August 1916.
Ration Farm (La Plus Douve) Annex is located 10.5 Kms south of Ieper town centre, on a road leading from the Rijselseweg N365, which connects Ieper to Wijtschate and on to Armentieres. From Ieper town centre the Rijselsestraat runs from the market square, through the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road. The road name then changes to the Rijselseweg.
