Arthur Cassidy is believed to be the son of Patrick and Mary Cassidy (nee Henry). Arthur was born on 26th February 1877 in the parish of Bellaghy, County Derry. The family lived in Money Staghan Ellis, County Londonderry. They were a farming family. Arthur worked on the farm. Moneystaghan Ellis lies on the Magherafelt side of Portglenone. Arthur emigrated to New Zealand. Private Arthur Cassidy was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Otago Regiment, New Zealand .Expeditionary Force when he was killed in action in Belgium at Passchendaele on 1st October 1917.

The names of those from United Kingdom units are inscribed on Panels arranged by Regiment under their respective Ranks. The names of those from New Zealand units are inscribed on panels within the New Zealand Memorial Apse located at the centre of the Memorial.
