John Brown was the son of John and Christina Brown. John was born in Belfast about 1882. John Brown enlisted in Glasgow. Corporal John Brown was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he was killed in action on 13th May 1916. He was 34 years old. Corporal John Brown is buried in Ecoivres Military Cemetery. The CWGC record Corporal Brown as the son of John and Christina Brown, of ‘Mabarafelt, Co. Antrim’. This is assumed to be Magherafelt, County Londonderry.
Mont-St. Eloi is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, 8 kilometres north-west of Arras. Ecoivres is a hamlet lying at the foot of the hill, to the south-west and about 1.5 kilometres from Mont-St. Eloi. The cemetery is on the D49 road.
