John Brown was born in Magherafelt. John Brown enlisted in Belfast. Rifleman John Brown was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he was killed in action in France on 20th July 1918. He is buried in Godewaersvelde British Cemetery in France. The CWGC record Rifleman Brown as the husband of Mrs E. Brown, of 21 Israel Street, Belfast.
Godewaersvelde is a village near the Belgian border, about 16 kilometres south-west of Ieper (in Belgium), and is half-way between Poperinge (in Belgium) and Hazebrouck (in France). The British Cemetery is a little east of the village.
