Summary
John Stewart was the son of Robert and Isabella Stewart. He was born on 18th November 1889 in Hervey Hill, Tamlaght O’Crilly, Kilrea. They were a farming family who lived in that area. John ‘Jack’ Stewart emigrated to Australia about 1912. Prior to enlisting, Jack was working as a Motor driver and was living in Newtown, New South Wales. Jack Stewart enlisted on 17th August 1914 in Randwick, New South Wales. Private Jack Stewart was serving with the 4th Battalion of the Australian Infantry when he was killed in action on 1st May 1915 in Gallipoli, Turkey
The Anzac and Suvla cemeteries are first signposted from the left hand junction of the Eceabat - Bigali road. From this junction you should travel into the main Anzac area. At 7.6kms., take a right turn to Chunuk Bair and initially take the road to Kemalyeri. At 10.3kms, Lone Pine will be found on the left. Lone Pine Cemetery stand on the plateau at the top of Victoria Gully.
