John Herbert Oliver-Thompson was the son of Henry and Alice Marian Thompson. John was born about 1896. He attended Dublin University (Trinity College) Officers Training Corps. John Oliver-Thompson served for a time with the South Staffordshire Regiment. He was mentioned in Despatches. Acting Major John Herbert Oliver-Thompson was serving with the 40th Company of the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) when he died on Thursday 21st Mar 1918. He was 22 years old.
The Arras Memorial is in the Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery, which is in the Boulevard du General de Gaulle in the western part of the town of Arras. The cemetery is near the Citadel, approximately 2 kms due west of the railway station.
