Matthew A Higgins was a son of Francis and Susanna Higgins. Matthew Higgins was born on 8th November 1894 in the area of Draperstown, County Derry. He was one of 14 children. The family lived in Desertmartin. Matthew was an agricultural labourer. Matthew Higgins enlisted in 1915. Private (2nd Class) Matthew Higgins was serving on the 39th Squadron of the Royal Air Force when he died on 22nd January 1919. He was 24 years old.
