John Anderson was the son of William and Margaret Anderson. John Anderson was born on 28th September 1886 in Toberhead Cottage, Knockloughrim, near Desertmartin, County Londonderry. John was a labourer before emigrating to Australia. John Anderson enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria on 28 September 1916. He was working as a labourer and living in Melbourne at the time. Private John Anderson joined 5th Battalion in the field on 13th May 1917. He was serving with the 8th Battalion of the Australian Infantry when he was killed in action in France on 1st August 1918. He was 31 years old.
Outtersteene is a village about 5 kilometres south-west of Bailleul. The Communal Cemetery Extension is north-east of the village on the road to Bailleul.
From Bailleul follow the D23 road to Outtersteene, the cemetery is on the right hand side of the road just as you approach the outskirts of the town.
