Summary      
Albert Edward Murphy was the youngest son of James and Martha Jane Murphy. He was born in Kilrea on 8th March 1897. He was one of 11 children. The family lived in Kilrea and then Knockintern. His father was a gardener and domestic servant. Lance Corporal Albert Murphy was serving with the 10th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on Saturday 1st July 1916. He was 19 years old. The last report of Lance Corporal Murphy was that he was seen lying wounded in the centre of the 3rd line of trenches near Albert.

Albert Murphy was the youngest son of James and Martha Jane Murphy. James Murphy married Martha Heaney in Ballymoney on 6th November 1882.
Albert Edward Murphy was born in Kilrea on 8th March 1897. He was one of 11 children.

Albert was a member of Loughan Flute Band.
Albert Murphy enlisted in Donegal.

Lance Corporal Albert Murphy was serving with the 10th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on Saturday 1st July 1916. He was 19 years old.

Lance Corporal Albert Murphy has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Lance Corporal Albert Murphy is commemorated on the WW1 memorial in the grounds of Kildollagh Parish Church (St Pauls) at Loughan.
