Samuel Dawson was born in Portglenone, County Londonderry, which suggest he was born in the Magherafelt District. Samuel Dawson enlisted in Belfast. He had previously been living in Glasgow. Private Samuel Dawson was serving with the 11th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on Saturday 1st July 1916. Private Samuel Dawson has no known grave and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial.
